Mediation is an alternate to litigation for divorcing or divorced parents regarding the care and upbringing of their children. In spite of their difficulties parents are the best people to decide what is in their children's best interests. Research has shown that with the help of a mediator, most parents can make these decisions without having to go to court. Parents can seek mediation voluntarily or it can be mandated by the court. Insurance does not reimburse for mediation services
Norman C. Dasenbrook is a court approved mediator for couples in Boone and Winnebago counties, who are mandated by the court to seek mediation to resolve disputes regarding custody and visitation of their children. Local court rules can stipulate a minimum of three hours of mediation in an attempt to solve their disputes themselves. Norm has been a mediator for over 13 years and has co-authored a book on mediation, Harnessing The Power of Conflict.
